Frequently Asked Questions

Are pets allowed?

Pets are not allowed for short-term guests. Some guests have allergies to pet hair, so we aim to keep both villas free from pet hair for those guests. If you bring a pet into the Parrot Villa, a $200 deep cleaning fee will be charged to your credit card. The Monkey Villa may be used for longer stays, and if a pet stays, a deep clean is done prior to the next guest.

Are there any cleaning fees?

Cleaning fees are included in the rental fee. For our short-term rental clients who book a stay of more than 7 nights, we offer an additional cleaning visit during your visit at no charge. In this case, we will work with you to organize a time that works best for you, or you can decline this cleaning visit.

Do I need a 4WD vehicle to get to Villas Escondrijo?

Villas Escondrijo is on the side of a mountain, at an elevation of approximately 850ft above sea level. A 4WD vehicle is needed for the drive to Villas Escondrijo, and also to allow you to visit the different beaches, attractions and restaurants you will want to see during your stay.

How far are you from the airport?

There are a few airport options.

  1.  Your flight from your originating country will likely land in San Jose (SJO) at Juan Santamaria airport, and from there you can choose to rent a car or hire a driver to take you right to Villas Escondrijo. Depending on weather and traffic, this should take about 3.5 hours, and is a beautiful drive with some things to stop and see along the way, like the bridge in Tarcoles where the crocodiles sunbathe on the banks of the river.

  2. There are buses available from San Jose to Playa Dominical, which is just a few kilometres from Dominicalito. The bus ride takes approximately 5-6 hours, and you will require a car or driver from Dominical to Villas Escondrijo, which is about a 10 minute drive.

  3. Sansa Airlines offers multiple flights each day from San Jose to Quepos. The flight is 30 minutes, and you can hire a driver or rent a car from there. Some car rental agencies will pick you up at the Quepos airport. The drive from Quepos to Villas Escondrijo is approximately 40 minutes.

  4. Depending on where you are flying from, and what time of year, it is sometimes possible to find deals on flights into Liberia (LIR) at Daniel Oduber Airport, but we don't recommend this. It is a significantly longer driver than from San Jose, depending on trafic due to weather and road construction. I would expect this drive to take 6 hours or more.

Does it rain all the time in the 'rainy season'?

Absolutely not. While we can't predict the weather for your vacation, the 'rainy season', which we like to refer to as the 'green season' typically sees at least a little bit of rain each day. This could mean 20 minutes, or most of the day, depending on which month you visit. Even during rainy season, you may see multiple days in a row with barely a cloud in the sky, though. Many people (including us) prefer to visit during the green season, when the vegetation is its most lush and green and things are a little bit less busy. Prices for some things tend to be less during the green season as well.
